On Saturday October 14th, 2023, the American Legion Harry C. Miller Post 1187 held our annual Birthday Banquet during which we celebrate the Post’s founding. We also paid tribute to the men and women who serve our community – Castle Rock Police, Castle Rock Fire and Rescue, and Douglas County Sheriff.
This year’s honorees are as follows:
- Division Chief Oren Bersagel-Briese – Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department
- Sergeant Dustin J. Frost – Castle Rock Police Department
- Deputy Brian Sapp – Douglas County Sheriff’s Department
We also had the great honor to present Post and Honor Guard member Dale Erickson with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award and a letter and coin from the White House in recognition of his over 7,861 hours of volunteer community service. Dale is an amazing example of commitment to our Veterans, congratulations Dale!
Our speaker this year was Ms Elizabeth Harper who gave a presentation about the Tuskegee Airmen, including an airman living in Colorado, Mr Franklin J. Macon. Ms Harper co-authored the book “I Wanted to be a Pilot: The Making of a Tuskegee Airman” with Mr Macon.
