Post 1187 is very engaged in supporting the local community.

Buddy Bears for Childrens’ Hospital Colorado

Throughout each decade of its 100 years of service, Children’s Colorado has drawn upon its legacy of providing outstanding pediatric healthcare.

A legacy that began in 1908 when volunteers pulled back the canvas flaps on their first tent hospitals to admit a child in need and continued with the opening of Children’s Colorado’s doors in 1910 and 1917 endures to this day as Children’s Colorado researchers, clinicians and teachers open the doors to exciting advancements in pediatric care.

The Post 1187 Auxiliary supports the Buddy Bears and Friends program which includes purchasing and delivering “Stuffed Animals” to the Children’s Hospital. We hope this project brings some comfort to children at the hospital.

Colorado Artfest at Castle Rock

The weekend after Labor Day, the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce hosts a fine arts show with artists from across the country. The Front Range views in Castle Rock provide the perfect canvas for the 30th Annual Colorado Artfest, which has become a summertime tradition for residents and art enthusiasts alike.

Our Post’s Color Guard supports the opening and closing ceremonies.

Daughters of the American Revolution

The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.

A couple of our local DAR members belong to our American Legion Post 1187/Auxiliary Unit 1187. The Castle Rock DAR chapter has joined the American Legion Post 1187 and Auxiliary Unit 1187 on several events over the years.

The latest was our sponsoring/partnering for the “Run For The Fallen” event that took place in Castle Rock over the weekend of September 11th & 12th, 2021
