Mike McNairy

COMMANDER

Mike is the Commander of the American Legion’s Harry C. Miller Post 1187 in Castle Rock Colorado. He has served as the Post’s Adjutant and Senior Vice Commander and is currently representing District 6 on the Department of Colorado’s Executive Committee. He is also a Treasurer for the Post’s American Legion Riders group.

Mike served in the United States Air Force from 1989 to 2010 in the Space and Missile career field (13S4). Mike retired in 2010 from Peterson Air Force base and now lives and works with his wife, Lynette in Sedalia, Colorado.

Dave Giboo

Senior Vice COMMANDER

Dave joined the Air Force in 1985 and served as a Fuels Specialist (POL) during his 10 year career. Duty stations include Pope AFB North Carolina, RAF Lakenheath United Kingdom and Offutt AFB Nebraska.

Highlights of his career include being awarded the 3rd Air Force Junior Fuels Technician of the Quarter (Q1 1989) and selected to represent the 3rd Air Force at the 2ATAF international swim competition at NATO Headquarters in Brussels Belgium (1989).

Dave currently works as a Records Manager for the Bureau of Land Management’s National Operations Center in Denver. Dave is a PUFL member of the Legion and has previously been a member of Post 111 in Orland Park Illinois and Post 178 in Lakewood Colorado. Originally from Omaha Nebraska, Dave has been married to his wife Elaine since 1984 and they have five grown children.

Christopher Desmond

Junior Vice COMMANDER

Christopher was born and raised NAVY. Son of a career officer, Christopher enlisted in 1985, served on active duty until 1991. He was stationed aboard USS John F. Kennedy, CV67, as an Electronics Technician 2nd Class, Surface Warfare Specialist, and is a Veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

After separating from active duty, Christopher married Sharon and went to Villanova University in Philadelphia. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering. Christopher is a engineer for Verizon and has been in the telecommunications industry since 1997. In 2023 he celebrated being married to Sharon for 32 years.

He is a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served as All-State Post Commander of VFW Post 6393, Yardley, PA. He has been an active member of Post 1187 since joining in 2021. Christopher and Sharon moved to Castle Pines in 2019 and are very happy to be out West.

Larry Underwood

Adjutant

I proudly joined the US Army and was inducted in April of 1967. I did my basic training at Ft. Benning Georgia followed by AIT at Ft. Rucker Alabama.

My job during the Vietnam War was as a crewman on a UH1D Iroquois Helicopter designed by Bell Helicopter. Nicknamed the Huey it carried 4 passengers and 2 door gunners. Basically I was a helicopter mechanic on the ground and door gunner in the air.

After my active duty I was stationed at a chemical weapons facility guarding agent orange, napalm, cluster bombs, etc. I was discharged in June of 1973.

I have served at  Post Commander, Senior Vice Commander, Finance Officer, and now as Post Adjutant.

Wayne Turner

Finance Officer

Wayne enlisted in the Navy in 1967, headed for boot camp in San Diego on his 18th birthday. Trained as a Hospital Corpsman at Balboa Naval Hospital, also in San Diego. Was sent to Yokosuka, Japan and assigned to the Naval Hospital. In 1970, Wayne was ordered to Camp Pendleton for training with the Marines then sent to Vietnam and assigned in country with Kilo 3/5 1st Maine Division, then 1st Motor Transport in Danang until April 1971.

After the military, worked 30 years as a Firefighter, then 6 years with Do.County schools. Married to June, 10 children, 12 grandchildren. Past Post Cmdr., District 6 Adjutant, member of Honor Guard.

Dick Harding

U.S. Army December 1956 to December 1962. Six months active duty at Fort Dix, N.J. then assigned to Army Reserve National Guard 50th Armored Military Police.

Member of Castle Rock Kiwanis Club & Knights of Columbus. Avid Avalanche & hockey fan.

Lori Underwood-Waldrip

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1187 President

Lori is proud to be the granddaughter of a World War II veteran and the daughter of a Vietnam veteran.

Lori joined the Unit 1187 Auxiliary in 2017, served as Unit Historian from 2018-2019 and has been Unit President since 2019.

A graduate of the University of Colorado at Denver, Lori currently works in philanthropy for FOCUS (the Fellowship of Catholic University Students).
