American Legion Harry C Miller Post 1187 Crushes November

Posted by

Members of our Post, especially our Color Guard, were very busy this November with Veterans Day and associated activities. We appreciate all the support and interest from the Douglas County community!

It was quite the month:

  • 7 Nov – Douglas County Commissioners celebration of Veterans accomplishments in service news conference
  • 9 Nov – Color Guard for Douglas County Veterans Celebration
  • 11 Nov: Veterans Day
    • Color Guard for Sedalia Elementary
    • Speakers for Aspen View Elementary school’s Veterans Day celebration
  • 12 Nov:
    • Color Guard for Larkspur Elementary
    • Douglas County High School Veterans Day celebration
  • 15 Nov – Flag Storage Detail (Post removes flags from poles downtown Castle Rock)
  • 19 Nov – Cub Scouts Pack 781 Hometown Heroes Pack Event, Flag Folding Ceremony
  • 22 Nov – STEM School Highlands Ranch
  • 23 Nov – Castle Rock Starlighting volunteers at our booth and remote parking lots

It takes a lot of work to support all these and we are very grateful to the members of our Color guard. Post members – we always welcome more help, if you are interested in joining the Color Guard, please ask one of our Officers.

Also, our very own Past Post Commander, Mike McNairy, who is leading efforts to bring the Douglas County Heroes Hall to life here in Castle Rock was featured in this news story.

Another big accomplishment for our Post was the formal swearing in of our first Sons of the American Legion officers. Standing up a Sons Squadron has been a long time goal of our Post Commander, Dave Giboo, and thanks to everyone’s hard work it is now a reality. If you have family members eligible to join, consider bringing them to a Post meeting to learn more.

We also want to extend a very special thank you to Aspen View Academy who chose our Post as their Veterans Day local organization to support. Your support of our Veterans is very much appreciated.

See all the phots from this month in our Google Photos album.

Happy Thanksgiving to our Legion Family, all our Veterans, Service Members, and their families, and our Castle Rock community.
