The American Legion has a proud tradition of supporting our Nation’s youth since our founding in 1919, when Children & Youth was declared one of the Legion’s four pillars. Since 1939, April has been designated the American Legion Children and Youth month (previously American Legion Child Welfare Month), and as such we’d like to highlight the many Youth Programs and Youth Support offered by the American Legion.
Of course many of us are familiar with Boys State (and Girls State through the American Legion Auxiliary) and Legion Baseball. But there are many other youth activities supported by the American Legion such as the Oratorical contest and support for Scouting. Some of these programs even have scholarships associated with them. Learn about all the American Legion Youth Program.
In addition to these programs to help enrich and develop our youth, the American Legion also supports many programs for children in need. One you may not know about is Temporary Financial Assistance, which awards cash grants to minor children of current Active Duty Servicemembers or American Legion members. These grants help families in need meet the cost of shelter, food, utilities and health expenses, thereby keeping the child or children in a more stable environment.
If you are, or know of, a family in need in the Castle Rock area that meets this eligibility, please let us know.
